Merino Melanzana?
|
I really enjoy my melanzana hoodie as many people do. My one quip with it is that it is fleece, which is fine but being the earthy crunchy granola man that I am I have to wonder what is all the micro plastics doing to my local watershed and the rivers. I mean what is a guy to do? I was wondering if there is a Merino Wool Melanzana out there? Something with the same scuba style hoodie and a kangaroo pocket, but made of 100% merino wool? Does such a thing exist? Or should I invest in a sewing machine and some fabric? |

I had a merino wool hoodie for a bit and it accumulated lint and dust like nothing else. I could flick it in the air and a cloud of dust would erupt. My merino wool base layers never did that. I'm guessing something about the thicker weave of sweater-weight merino wool causes that to happen. Either way I'm never going back to merino wool sweaters again. But what I had was just a standard zip-up hoodie, without the scuba hood or kangaroo pocket. I think the closest to what you want would be the Outdoor Research Alpine Onset Merino Ubertube Top. |

Oh boy you’re in luck! Melanzana itself has started making what youre looking for: https://melanzana.com/product/merino-base-hoodie/ It certainly is more of a base layer than standalone hoody but the same design as the classic Melly. Just gotta get to Leadville |

Men’s is cut straight in the body, and Women’s is more fitted and contoured." If it's a base layer, I would actually suggest getting something that's hugs the body for a merino blend. Lots of companies have hooded base layers these days. BD makes a killer one if you have $140 to spare, I would NOT use this like an OG Melanzana (an all-day piece you wear everywhere) as the merino will much more easily rip. Grid fleece is pretty bulletproof. Thin 150 g/sm merino wool not so much. Wool works well for base layers, as it's protected under >1 other layer. |

I was looking for a similar thing and ended up with the Voormi Eleven.9 Hoodie. Their newer version is the Treeline Hoodie. Grid fleece/merino on the inside only. |

Not Not MP Admin wrote: True. As silly as they are, the thumb holes can be kinda helpful if you’re putting on a fleece or pullover and don’t want the sleeves to ride up. |

Doesn't have the kangaroo pocket, but this is pretty popular in backpacking circles and is quite comfy as an all-day semi-outerwear fleece like the melly https://appalachiangearcompany.com/collections/mens/products/mens-all-paca-fleece-hoodie |
