Harness for 10 years old
|
Can my 10 years old skinny son use a regular climbing harness? Or do I need to get one for children |

as long as it fits snugly over the hip bones without a chance of it coming down, you’re good to go. |

You may have trouble finding one that fits. I’m 130lbs and wear a men’s small. Depending on how small he is you’re probably looking at needing a women's harness if you really don’t want to purchase a kids one. |

You can tie a totally acceptable harness from 1 inch webbing. There should be instructions in numerous online and print (FOTH?) sources. |

Black diamond momentum 4 buckle comes in xxs. That is what my son graduated to after a kids specific harness it fits him well. There are other companies that make a four buckle harness that goes really small as well. Camp Jasper cr4 is another really great super adjustable harness. |

I just figured out that harness "for groups" (the one with a single tie-in loop) has almost infinite range of adjustment so I'll probably get one |

Basically a standard harness with adjustable leg loops and 2 adjustable waist buckles. 2 gear loops. Much better than the typical all webbing ones. |

Check out the Mammut Ophir kids harness. My sons used this from age 8 until they hit puberty and hit the 120 lb mark. https://www.mammut.com/us/en/products/2020-00811/ophir-kids |

Petzl picchu works perfect for my kiddo - 8 year old, 50lbs tops, and he has climbed well without the shoulder straps (smaller kids harness) for a year or two, with plenty of room to grow. Most of the major brands have a solid option and should have waiste size listed. |

Todd Hudson wrote: I used a maccchu until I was 13 and well over the weight limit. It can get pretty big, and I bet that I could still fit in it. It does have a weight limit of 88 pounds, but I took a fair amount of lead falls with it and it held me when I was 110 pounds. If you want to do anything other than gym climb, you might want to look at something else, because it was not super comfortable and only has two gear loops. |
