Are these guys legit?

Prices seem almost too good to be true. Has anyone had any experience with them? https://www.dealsclimbing.com/climbing-ropes/ |

I'm having the same doubt with https://www.new-climbing.com/. Directed there from google shopping and was about to check out, then started to feel that the deals are too good to be true... Q: Are scam websites a thing for climbing gear? Has anyone received gear from them? |

If I had a bunch of extra money I'd pay for one and see what shows up. Any trusties here willing to take a chance? |

I have seen a bunch of scam sites like this lately. Some of them are billed as "outlet" stores. I tried starting a purchase from one of them to see what happened. These guys: I was buying something that was $116. When I went to the checkout, I got a message that it was my lucky day and I qualified for an additional discount and the new price was $99. (Which is just under the PayPal threshold for investigating a fraud claim.) They then sent me a PayPal invoice for a person named Dimitri. Needless to say, I did not follow through on the purchase. The scams are getting better and better. This "outlet" site looks very legit (other than the unreasonably low prices.) I've seen a similar site for Arcteryx as well, claiming to be an Arcteryx outlet. |

Don’t be so cheap and you won’t get scammed. |

Rule of thumb: If they have what you want in your size, it’s a scam. |

https://www.dealsclimbing.com/climbing-ropes/, https://www.climbbackpacks.com/, https://www.usa-shoes.com/, https://www.new-climbing.com/ are all scam websites. All of these websites have the exact same template with the same "About Us" info, but each has a different fake company address. |

Rock and snow in New Paltz, NY and the Mountaineer in Keene Valley, NY has all the climbing gear you could ever need or can order it for you if it’s not in stock. If not them then I think it’s always best to try and support local climbing shops rather than trying to find the cheapest possible deal just to save a few bucks. Shop and buy local. |

With sales tax laws getting squared up for internet sales and the major manufacturers stricter about pricing among their distribution - I’ve indeed been buying a lot of my stuff local these days. Yeah - Google shopping seems more likely to lead you to a scam or just a shitty buying experience than a better deal. |

https://www.oliunid.com/climbing/climbing-ropes/climbing-single-ropes.html?product_list_dir=asc This site is from Italy and legit. Their prices can be 50% lower than US prices, especially on Euro brands. You will pay 25-30 for shipping, but if you splurge for the $30 express shipping and it’s in stock, I get my orders 2 days after order. Here’s a deal: https://www.oliunid.com/deals/climbing-equipment/ropes/beal-tuono-9-4-mm-climbing-rope.html Note: if your item is not in stock, they order from the manufacturer, and it can take 3-5 weeks. They are responsive to emails about backorders, but if the wait is a problem for you, make sure your item is listed as In Stock. Also, keep your order under $800 to avoid import duties |
|
+1 to Oliunid, thanks to the exchange rate there are some good deals, and they're a solid company, had stuff arrive much faster than I expected. |
|
Another one popped up called "newhikingbootes.com". Same scam company. |
|
Fake. Also La Sportiva & Salomon have their good share of scam sites. |
|
I think campusashop.com might also be one of those. It randomly discounted $180 worth of stuff to $99 when the Paypal payment part came up... |
