Lightest 18650 headlamp
|
Hello, Nitecore is releasing what they claim is the world's lightest rechargeable 18650 headlamp at 115g all in. Coincidentally that is the exact same weight as the sofirn H05B on my scale! The nitecore might be something to look at for people who are uncertain about sofirns. Of course it costs 4 times as much, but does have IPX 6/8 and 2m drop ratings. The lumens output is probably not too different, though the H05B is very floody. 18650 headlamps is that sweet spot between weight, output, runtime and battery replaceability. https://www.nitecorelights.com/products/nu43-1400-lumens Thank you |

-battery isn’t replaceable. -FL1 runtimes (standard measures runtime until it drops to 10% output). This is better than non-FL1 compliant older BD and Petzl, but IMO the one of the biggest reasons to spend money on a headlamp is constant, regulated output. -usb-c charging -separate power and mode buttons |

If only the battery was replaceable... |

Good that they're using a high capacity battery, but bummer it's not replaceable. I'd take the extra grams for that, as its worth knowing you can extend the runtime by however number of batteries you have. You also run the risk of the port busting due to abuse, corrosion, what have you. Then you're SOL. It's happened to me before. (They do make batteries with built in charging ports, and that can be convenient) Is this the Sofrins you're talking about Fishy Boi (and which version would you suggest)? Might grab one as a backup just for fun and see how it performs against my much more expensive Fenix. |

Hello, Apologies, I somehow missed the non swappable feature, or lack there off. That's pretty stupid of them. The H05A (also sold as H05B "all white" on aliexpress) link is here: Personally I prefer the 5 white LEDs over the 3 white/2 red. But the red one is very bright in both white and red, I have both. I would suggest the SST20 option. The locked D25 thread has some minor mods I did to make them better for climbing. There video reviews of both versions on youtube. Thank you |

I haven’t used them outside or while climbing but have been using them in attics and crawl spaces (unfortunately…) Honestly for the price it is a way better value than any headlamp I’ve ever owned. They don’t have any of the fancy proximity/ambience sensors or Bluetooth like a high end Petzl but the Sofrin, is bright, well built and has an adequate amount of features. Definitely worth the $16! |

Not sure the non replacement thing would matter to me. The battery weighs about the same as a backup lighter headtourch |

My brain has been on level 11 ADHD and the time searching for my g/d lost head lamp before I can actually get going is becoming a struggle. Now I'll have 3x as many headtorches to be able to look for - which should save me 15 minutes/day - these should pay for themselves within a month! |

David Coley wrote: Totally use-case specific. If I'm going out for a week, it means I"ll have >1 batteries with me, and if I lose the main light, I wanna still be able to use those spare batteries I'll have anyways. If you're only out for an overnight, or only need a light "just in case", not being able to replace things is a little moot. Although if the charging port busts (and that's happened to me), you're SOL. Haven't have it happen on a USBC plug, but micro USB plugs are notorious for it. |

$16 rebranded h05b on Amazon I think (with battery) Tempted to grab a couple bc our current lights are good around camp only https://smile.amazon.com/Headlamp-Rechargeable-Waterproof-Flashlight-GO-H05B/dp/B09LH24TGQ?th=1 |

Matt N wrote: Hello, Those are the XPG3 versions. There are 4 different LED versions of the H05A/H05B. You can see them in the video below. The question is always the battery with these rebrands. With the sofirn USA site you are getting a known 3000mAh, with their Aliexpress a known 2200mAh. Rebrands may or may not give you a properly rated battery. The flipside is that Amazon has a much better return policy within 30 days. Thank you |

Fishy Boi wrote: Thanks for the additional info. We've got quality 18650 that we use in our dive lights, so we're good if they ship crappy batteries with these |

The sofirn were only $2 more for the battery, so it seemed an OK gamble. |

Long Ranger wrote: free shipping on these? (I can't tell without creating an account I think) |

Matt N wrote: It was free shipping for me, and they give you a 15% off coupon at checkout. Bought them yesterday, so we'll see how long it takes to get delivered - I'm not expecting them soon, but it'll be a nice surprise when they get here. |

Huge fan of the D25S, worked flawlessly for me, great climbing and route finding light. |

This is a great thread. Cool-looking lights. QUESTION: Do you have the unit pop out of headlamp brackets? Wondering if it is wall-spec |
