Hello! I live south of Denver, and recently discovered my necessity for a new shoulder, although I am not sure if it will be a partial or total replacement. I have arthritis, longend bicep tendon tear, rotator cuff tears, labral tear and bursitis/bone spurs.

I’ve been reading a lot through the forums where some ortho‘s have varying opinions on Climbing after surgery. Can someone please recommend a surgeon on the Front Range that provided you with results which allowed you to keep climbing? Thanks so much in advance!

Go the the Steadman Clinic in Frisco/Vail and see Dr. Tom Hackett.  You won't be sorry.  He does great work.  Did one of my shoulders, many other BIG climbers and skiers.

He knows his stuff.

I think for shoulder replacement you should see Peter Millett at Steadman Hawkins in Vail.  Dr. Hackett is amazing but mostly specializes in repairs (i.e. rotator cuff) not in replacement.

I could be wrong about Hackett not doing replacements but that's what I've heard and his website does not list replacement as one of his services.

I just saw Millett and he said he would allow me to climb after a full replacement.  He said he has done TSA on several climbers with good results and return to sport.  I'm planning on doing the surgery in February.

Thanks Steve and Jeff! I was referred to Steadman Hawkins on the front Range and I will contact them although I am not sure if it is the same doctors. Thanks again, I appreciate the referrals.

Has anyone worked with Dr. Xenos and Colorado ortho or recommend anyone in South Denver or similar please?

Having spent my lifetime climbing and certainly hoping to continue to do so I am going to ease into such a massive undertaking with total shoulder replacement and I appreciate any advice as well please.

Thanks again everyone!

I highly recommend Daniel Haber of Panorama Orthopedics. I didn’t get a full shoulder replacement from him but I did have some reconstructive surgery done there, and have continued to climb with no negatives. Really experienced physical therapists there as well that helped facilitate a fast recovery

Thank you Jeff! Current remission and some recovery, so better than in a while, but still not climbing.

Say Hi to L!
