Hey guys I’m just looking a rock scarmble or very challenging backpacking with some scrambling involved in North Carolina to do with my dad that can do very light easy 5th type stuff. We did left wishbone rock scramble last weekend and it was pretty wet and are looking for something else of that nature in North Carolina.

Day hike?  Overnight?  Distance?

Hard to beat Linville gorge.

Grandfather mountain is another option.

The black mountain alpine scrambles are pretty much the only well traveled stuff of that character. There’s plenty of long backpacking trips you can do but not a lot of long scrambles like left wishbone. Def not ones with documentation on MP. If you want to up the ante though there are a couple more committing long 4th easy 5th in GSNP. I’ve considered an attempt of the S/E ridge of Chimney Tops and almost went out and did the S face of Anakeesta Knob but had a partner bail on me.

I second the linville recomendation plenty of options on trails.  get the avenza app with free linville map pack. Sweet gully that goes down to the river from the base of the daddy that is well off the beaten path its in the approach trails section of MP

Cedar Rock has some good scrambling albeit not as long as Black Mtn alpine but 300+feet or so of great rock. I hike to Butter Gap and take Art Loeb around south side to a campsite at the base of south face. Can scramble from here or move down the wall and pick a spot. Mostly 3rd/4th class with some 5.3+ moves higher up depending on chosen route. I usually take trail to summit and down the steepness of Stone Depot back to Butter Gap and the car. Great adventure workout.

Second Linville gorge. But download some maps before hand.
black mnt alpine will push your limit, especially as winter approaches

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
