How often do climbing permit applications get denied based on the premises of inexperience?

Which route?  Solo or group?  My sense is that a group (2+) permit on a standard route is a gimme, while they're looking for excuses to deny solo permits.

The Disappointment Cleaver.  Probably would be about 5 of us.

A permit for a group of 5 on the DC would never get denied.  There might not be permits available if you show up late on a nice weather weekend during peak season though.

Alright, just didn’t want to commit so much if there was a good chance of denial.

I’ve never heard of a denial. Be safe up there and enjoy!

To my knowledge the NPS will not deny a group permit. They will however strongly advise a group to reconsider their objective. That might mean attempting a different route or using a guide service.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
