Hello Washington climbers, does anyone know why there’s no established routes on the big striking faces on the northwest side of Mt. Si? The big 1000 foot ish rocks on the left as seen from North Bend. Is it chossy or inaccessible or just has nobody gotten around to it yet? Seems like such a cool obvious objective so I’m sure there’s a reason but just wondering if anyone knows why there’s no lines on those faces.
There is a specific part of si not in the land management area, which is kinda fair game. The issue is the approach I think is in someone’s back yard. My grandpa was a logger and he told me stories of them dropping trees triggering huge rock slides.
Then the actual logistics, the rock at si is a cocktail of solidified ash, bomber rock, moss, large pods attached by mud and ledges. Then you gotta route find, rig it, trundle it, and climb it.
You should do it if not too many feathers will be ruffled!!
1) Everything within the Mount Si Natural Resources Conservation Area (DNR) is closed to development. And, technically, off-trail travel is not allowed.
2) There is some land that is owned by the City of North Bend, but they have also not allowed permission on their property (watershed protection).
Finally, parking and overland access to the area is essentially all cross private property.
