Pregnancy Climbing Gear
|
Hi All, I am looking for any info anyone might have on pregnancy harnesses. I was looking at previous posts and can't seem to find any of the harnesses that are recomended. Does anyone have any tips on what might be best? |

I had to dig deep to find a full body for my wife. The mountain momma is out of production, so your only option is the Petzl 8003, which I could only find domestically on Moosejaw. As my wife would say, “it does the job”, but it is not comfy. She started wearing it at the gym at about 4 months. We are planning to do the rostrum this weekend, so I’ll try to report back on it’s harder outdoor climb performance. |

I ended up having to buy my wife's mad rock mountain mama from a store in Quebec and have it shipped to Switzerland. But this shop in Ontario seems to have one available. You really have to search on the back pages of google. https://www.sendergear.com/products/mountain-mama It's not the comfiest (according to her), but it's supposedly comfier than the petzl? It only has 1 small gear loop on the left. Also it's heavy and very bulky, definitely not a fast and light alpine style harness. But it allowed her to climb 5.12s and do multipitch through 8 months of pregnancy. |

We settled for the petzl. I emailed the guys at extremegear.org to get it. Not a deal but I like supporting them. Edit: while it’s not the most comfortable, it does just fine. The biggest impact on climbing was energy levels and nausea anyway. We might add some padding if/when there’s a baby #2. |

Beth Rodden's blog addresses this issue: http://bethrodden.com/2016/11/pregnancy-climbing-harnesses/ |

If you're in the Bay Area, I have a friend that may have a used harness available.... |
|
Hey Andy, any chance that friend's harness is still for sale? |
