Looking to get the crowd’s opinion on the best multi-day free climbing harness for big walls. I have done a ton of free climbing in my Metolius Waldo. But it is heavy. I love all the padding but my skinny legs don’t need double back adjustments, i don't need two belay loops. I have considered making a franken-harness. Cutting a belay loop off my old Waldo, swapping out some no adjust sporty leg loops. That way I still get the sofa-king comfy waist of the Waldo and a less cumbersome design over all. Thoughts? Suggestions on outa the box harnesses that are perfect? We will have a ledge and likely flag it on steep sections.

What do you use on normal free multi-pitch climbs? I’d go with that unless every belay is hanging. Also depends on what you are climbing. What grade wall and where is it?

Idk my back hurts so often I pretty much just always climb in my Waldo. Single pitch in the front range or big wall in Pakistan doesn’t matter. It’s not actually that heavy, just bulky and hard to pack. But what wall harness isn’t?

Misty Mountain will custom make your Franken Harness you mentioned above, will do it in awesome colors that you pick, and will answer your questions in a perfect southern Appalachian accent.

Thanks guys. It sounds like none of you reccomend the new fangled comfort designs over the sheer amount of plush padding on the Waldo. I was wondering if there was a harness I am just over looking. I have worn the beefy Arcteryx harnesses with the special webbing structure but still they don't come close. I currently am climbing in the newest BD solution, I really like it. My first harness nearly 20 years ago was a misty Cadillac. I have three or four others floating around for gym, ice, pure sport, etc.

I love my custom Cadillac, esp when catching huge sport whips. They did ask me if I wanted a 7th gear loop, and I couldn't figure out where you would fit that on an extra small waist band. Lol

I never understood how one could do a wall route without a bosun’s chair. BEST pound and a half you can take up a wall. Makes a hanging belay a non-issue, and really any belay is better with a chair under your but, takes ALL the pressure off your harness contact points. AND, makes a great support against the back inside your haul bag for the hike down. Bosun’s chair + free climbing harness of your choosing = perfect rig…
