Anyone know where to get/ever buy climbing rope in bulk?

I'd love to get a spool of 500-1000 meters or something of decent dynamic rope for a good rate, but haven't managed to find anything so far online. Is this realistic? Or am I just being an idiot?

To what end? Cutting it down and reselling? Or is there a grander plan in the works?

I couldn’t imagine the weight of 1000 meters of 9mm rope….or how the spool would ship…unless you have a loading dock and a forklift available. Call Bluewater or another company that is USA made (as overseas would probably be impossible) and see if they will do it. Once you do, please post up, I would love to know the total bill for that order.

300-600m is more common.

This is how gyms and often guide services will buy their rope to save some money.

Sterling would be another option to contact.  They make their ropes in longer sections and then cut them into shorter pieces.  I imagine 1000m is going to be at least $4000-5000 once you factor in shipping.

200m spools are easy. You could order 3-5 of them. Unless you need 500-1000 m continuous? I’ve never seen that but if you find it let us know.

Maybe ask on one of the caving sites? The National Speleological Society used to have a forum, perhaps it still does.
Cavers dropping deep pits will use much longer ropes than climbers typically use.

About 120 pounds, give or take.

It's pretty rare that cavers would ever use a dynamic rope, but that is still a decent lead as their hookups for mega long static ropes could help with finding a mega long dynamic rope!

Yeah, I didn’t do that simple math. Wonder how much volume it would be next?  Via a spool and/or a simple stack in a crate like petzl does in boxes.

Good point. I missed that detail about dynamic rope

Mammut “10.1 Gym Station Classic Rope” has a retail SKU for 300m spools, but unless you can get a discount (expertvoice, or make friends with someone who gets wholesale prices) it will be more expensive than buying 4 80m ropes from Olunid. If you need longer than that you’ll need to special order directly from the manufacturer and probably end up paying out the nose for the privilege.

RE: weight/volume: my 100m 10mm static is roughly 15lbs, and takes up about 25L stacked in a bag.

I don't understand you guys thinking it would cost more.

Ropes are made in 1km lengths(at edelrid atleast) then cut down to size, contact any of the rope manufacturers based in the US and they should be able to sort you out with ease. Buying in that level of bulk I'd expect to pay about 2/3 rrp.

I just figured with most stuff usually its cheaper per unit if you buy larger quantities, and if you assume over 10 years you could go through 5 or more, 70m ropes, buying several hundred meters then cutting yourself new sections at will would be kinda neat, if the price made sense. Also thought it would be cool to have the option to cut your own custom lengths, not that anything radically different from 60 or 70m is expected but.... could be cool to have the option.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
