Dispersed camping New River Gorge
|
Anyone know if there are good dispersed sites near endless wall? The park website seems to indicate that dispersed camping is allowed as long as you’re more than 100 yards from a trail, but when I searched for camping information on Mountain Project it seems like most people are staying in developed campsites. Has anyone ever tried to camp dispersed near climbing? |

I've seen some people down by the river on the way to the meadows. However, locals have been tampering with cars, during the day and night along the climbers parking areas. I would believe this why people are sticking to campgrounds and Walmart. lol For real though, you can see that stuff in facebook forums. Idk Here is a link to nps.gov describing dispersed camping along the river. nps.gov/neri/planyourvisit/… |

NRG Superintendent's Compendium Additional dispersed camping regulations are listed in the compendium, including prohibiting camping within 300 ft. of cliff tops or bottoms and 100 ft. of trails, water sources or historical ruins. Camping is also entirely prohibited at Kaymoor, Beauty Mountain and Fern Creek (there are maps in the compendium showing the areas that are closed to camping). Due to steep nature of the terrain here, there are very few flat and easy access camping spots that fit within the regulations, so most people end up staying in campgrounds. |

I've seen this as well but didn't locate it this time. |

There is dispersed camping but it's not as popular here as it is in other National Parks because of the restrictions and landscape. The area between the road and trail is Nuttall land that's leased to a local hunt club so you'd have to camp below the cliff. The parking lots don't allow overnight parking so someone would have to drop you off and you'd be hiking a long way downhill to get to a "legal" campsite. |

Thanks a bunch guys, makes perfect sense. We’ll stay at the AAC campground. |
