Flying to Red River Gorge from SLC?

I'm curious about going from SLC to the Red River Gorge... Flights from SLC to Lexington are pricier than flights into Cincinnati or Louisville, but those are both a 2 hour drive from the Red. Is it worth flying into Lexington to save myself some driving?

Really depends on your time versus your money.  Something you'd have to decide.  Really only an hour difference in driving time?  Couple of gallons of gas at most I'd guess.

You might look at how much rental cars cost from each location too.

Last time at the Red I drove from Cumberland MD...ha ha.  Least I got a couple pitches in at Coopers Rock...

From Denver I think Cincinnati makes the most sense. I would imagine SLC is similar. It’s like a 45 minute difference compared to Lex and big cost savings. Can take a cheap bus to lex from there if necessary

We just booked a trip there flying to Cinci. There's a direct flight to cincinnati from SLC, but I don't think there's any non-stops to Lex. You'd probably waste the time in the airport that you would have saved driving.

Go to Louisville or Cincy (which is actually located in. Northern KY). It only adds about 1 hour of driving.

Also - I HIGHLY recommend getting full insurance on the rental car and/or getting 4wd or AWD. I've know many people to f up the rental car trying to drive in the southern region. If you're just going to Forrest service land and Muir valley you can skip it. But go where the fun is and drive some KY dirt roads

I haven’t done Louisville, but I’ve done Cincinnati, and it’s totally reasonable if the flights are cheaper. Only another 30-45 minutes over Lexington if I recall. I second the 4wd/awd recommendation above if you are looking to climb at Miller fork or PMRP, those roads can get pretty torn up.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
