The new A4….

After more than a year of development and testing the newest Alfifi version is available. (Limited quantity) Being the 4th version I’m calling it the A4.

It’s shorter, lighter and stronger than before.  The A4 features a one piece stainless steel hook and buckle frame.  The toothed cam is replaceable in case the teeth ever wear down from heavy use or abrasive rock like that found in Zion and similar areas.

The A4 is an elite piece of kit and I am extremely proud of how it turned out

A very limited number are currently available.  Lead time on production is long so when this batch is gone it will be some time before they are available again.
I will continue to make the tried and true welded hook A3 model at an entry level price point.

Cheers!!!

I've been testing a prototype of this for the last year and it's a slick piece of kit. The main part of the unit's head being made of a single piece of metal is streamlined and less bulky than the welded V3. Interestingly, even though it's only slightly lighter, it feels much lighter than the A3 version. It also is a bit shorter innterms of the spacing between your harness and the piece you're fifi'd into. TBH I haven't noticed this difference as much as I thought I would but that's probably just the survivor fallacy in action.

I have 3 or 4 Alfifis and this version is the first one I reach for every time.

Will having an A4 version make you more likely to get up your A1- horror show project than if you have a V3 Alfifi? Of course not, But if you appreciate well crafted tools in a way that your life partner considers to be grounds for pulling out the divorce papers they keep in the nightstand next to the bed, then this labor of love is a must.

I was not expecting these to be as much work as they are…  The demand has been overwhelming, which is humbling! This batch is basically sold out….  Lead times are long so if your interested in scoring one don’t wait, order now.

Skot just curious what's the cause of the long lead times? Is it materials? Fabrication?

Looks great btw and the premium over the V3 is minimal. You should be charging more.

That's a really funny joke that totally got lost in inclusive "woke" pronouns.

There is no such thing as A5!

If you get "lost" from two words in a phrase, or from a "they" used correctly, those divorce papers were likely well-used. It's telling that you think "wife" got changed to an inclusive pronoun because no one with a husband would ever be obsessed with well crafted tools right? Or would "wife or husband" have been less confusing than "life partner?" It's usually hard to tell if your intent is to lessen the contributions of gender or sexual preference, but in this case you were able to achieve both in one fell sweep. Bravo!

Lead times are long do to fabrication.
I have to get material and drop it off at the laser shop, it takes time to get my turn in the queue, then the parts have to be formed. Once I finally get them back I have to do the final finishing and assemble them. It all just takes time. I basically sew all day and work at night.

I should be charging more but I’m trying to kee the price point obtainable.

THIS RIGHT HERE is why supporting small gear producers like Skotswallgear or Runout Customs etc is so important and needed. There's no way Petzl or Black Diamond is thinking about the end user of their product in this way. The man loves the sport and it shows in his craftsmanship.
