Hi, my righteous Idaho crag people!  My wife and I are working on road trip plans for Sept, and thinking of the Fins.  We don't climb very hard so Mortal Earth is our destination as far as we can tell from MP.  We have a Tundra 2X with pop-up camper, so I want to confirm we can get to that parking area and any beta on camping, etc. would be appreciated.  Looks like Sept. might be pretty hot, so afternoons, I guess?  Cheers!

Mortal Earth is lower in the canyon, so you should have no problems getting there in pretty much any vehicle with some clearance. Flat spots for camping aren't abundant at the Mortal Earth parking, but down canyon there are some spots, like the old corral, or just outside the canyon, that are perfect for camping (a few minute drive to get to the approach each day). All of the Fins goes into shade after noon, so that's always the best time to climb unless it's bitterly cold. I've never been there in September but being at higher elevation it should be pretty nice.

The general way I've spent my time at the Fins is to sleep in as long as the sun will let you, have a lazy morning and cook some breakfast, and then head up to the walls at noon or a little after and climb until sunset. Bring some form of shade structure (tarp/etc.) if you're camping in the lower canyon, it gets hot in the mornings (though I've only been there in summer, so it'll be better in September). On the flip side, make sure to bring plenty of warm layers too, could easily be cold too!

We were there early last October. Heat wasn’t really a problem, but I guess it could be in September.
The road to Mortal Earth was pretty easy.
We camped about a mile from the main road at a decent site. Had two bar ATT if that matters to you. The corral seemed kind of dusty and not very flat.
Sort of nearby, If you boulder, the Channel is pretty cool. I also liked the lava tubes for steep sport, but they won’t be to everyone’s taste. Mortal Earth is pretty slabby.

Thanks, guys.  Hope we make it up there.
