Nomad Ventures in Joshua Tree is hiring 2022/2023
|
If you're looking for some seasonal work and want to be close to one of the best winter climbing destinations, send an email to JT@NomadVentures.com with your resume. They're looking to hire climbers with a wee bit of retail experience (it's preferred but not required)* You can also call them if you have any questions! 760-366-4684 It's a fun gig and you'll get to meet a lot of really cool people! Cheers! |

Cue the "it doesn't pay enough" crowd. No matter what it pays! |

Just to chime in... I've been shopping here for way too many years but have worked here (Nomads) for the past 2 years. We do like catering to the climbing community, and it is nice to have climbers apply for the job. However: hikers, car campers, dog walkers, cow wrestlers, and generally enthusiastic individuals are welcome to apply. It's a fun gig. As for pay: you work- you get paid. We live in a small community adjusting to the influx of visitors, short term rentals, and constant changes. But the consistency of Nomads for being the spot to visit before, during and after visiting JTNP remains top quality. Contact me directly if you have any questions. Climb On, y'all |

Andy is the besttttttttt |

Cron wrote: What is “enough”? It’s a job at a climbing shop. When I worked at a climbing shop I knew it didn’t pay that great, nobody expects that kind of job to be a lifelong career. |

Kevin Mokracek wrote: Different number for everyone, but for me it should be cost of living adjusted to the location, plus enough to save, with responsible spending habits. Typically, anything near minimum wage doesn’t cut it in 2022. The main issue I have is that a job is a job, we work for money. It’s bananas that you would advertise a job without sharing the most important bit of information. Here’s a CoL estimate for Yucca Valley: https://livingcost.org/cost/united-states/ca/yucca-valley For the record, I F’ing love Nomads and I open my wallet there everytime I visit JT. This is a systematic problem with job culture that I’m calling out. |

im sure it pays exactly what you'd expect, but I would expect most people applying for seasonal work are just on the road, chasing cool weather and good rock in their vans/cars. a lot of these types of places can barely even afford paying the current minimum wage, let alone anything above it. if you want to get paid more money you should seek out another job, there's plenty of them out there that pay well beyond minimum wage on your first day.. |

Worked for Bruce for 8 years, in every location he’s had but Carlsbad (which closed before I started). Always appreciate the little guys, if you want to live and work in Joshua tree not a ton of places to go and I’d recommend the climbing shop before the saloon. Cool people, chill vibe and a great way to make some money (and friends) living out there.

The qualified applicant should have a willingness to listen to me spray about my rad sends whenever I visit the shop this winter. |

Cron wrote: It’s an entry level position and pays accordingly I’m sure. The ideal candidate is probably homeless or is soon being kicked out if their mom’s house. Regardless, whoever does take the position should embrace it and climb their ass off any minute they’re not working, to do anything less would be a waste. |

"also, it’s Nomad, not NomadS. Personal pet peeve of the owner." The owner is Bruce Damon and Damon backwards is Nomad. |

Is there an overnight parking space for a prospective van living employee? That would be a good setup. Climb, work, climb, shower at Coyote Corner, eat at Castañedas, repeat. Life is good. |

C Miller wrote: Damn Chris, you just shot down my long standing assumption that Bruce named it after his old camper trailer that sits behind the Idylwild shop. First seeing that old Nomad trailer twenty plus years ago, I had concocted the idea that perhaps he began his business by selling climbing gear out of that camper and then kept the name when he eventually opened his first real shop. |

The Hobo knows! Another fan of Kasa Market! The little restaurant in the back is not much to look at but the food is great. Well worth the drive from JT. |

as long as we're talkin regional eats .... RIP the Dragon King buffet in Yucca, gone but not forgotten. Many a fine night was spent in there, gorging on crab legs and attempting to warm up as much as possible before waddling out to the primeval wasteland that is the dried up lakebed. |
