Best alternative to Patagonia R1 Fleece Hood?

I’ve had the half zip R1 since 2017 and sadly lost it recently. I tried the R1 air and not a fan. The R2 is too thick for my use. Lastly I tried the R1 tech face and I’ve heard it’s not as warm and the regular r1.

Does anyone have any recommendations for another brand? I fit slim and I do like having the zip pocket on the chest. I climb down to 20° and would typically just climb in my 2017 R1.

I’m with you Adam. I’ve tried multiple brands and options. Currently closest is from Ortovox (fits tall and slim) but no chest pocket.

I would wait on it and keep an eye on these forums. They are up for sale pretty often, probably before this winter there will be one

The Mammut pieces I have always seem to have a slim fit. I have my eyes on this piece and plan to pick one up before the upcoming ice season.

I’d really like to find a half zip that fits this bill

Ebay always has a lot of R1s but they tend to go for higher prices than the forum.

I found one I liked on Patagonia Worn Wear. Lots of R1’s on there and new ones get added everyday. Just check every so often and you might get lucky

Why not a new R1? The regular kind is still in the line.

The new R1 fleece hoody is a great layer. I don't understand what you don't like about it.

The new R1 doesn't fit us slim folks anymore....

+1

Also check Poshmark, Mercari, gear trade. Be patient and you'll find a deal on just the one you want.

this looks to have potential from RAB

Maybe the Patagonia airshed hoody? Maybe not as warm but the cut seems similar

Mammut, Mountain Equipment and Ortovox all feature a nice athletic slim fit, so much that I size up in them.

There is a Rab one that is very similar, yet thinner than the Patagonia version.  I like it because it's not too warm.

Anyone have experience with the OR Vigor? It’s got the full zip, chest pocket, side pockets, slim fit and thumb loops. Everything I like in a fleece.

could be worth a shot

Rab nexus jacket is really close to the R1 hoody as far as weight of fleece and stretch .

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
