At 1:19 saw something I heard was impossible and not to be done, looks like they are lead belaying with a Kong GiGi or Camp Ovo????

YGD?

Edit: I'm dumb, upon closer inspection looks like a standard black BD ATC.

Would work fine, just don't clip in to the plate itself. The keeper cord on plate and tube style devices is more of a convenience thing than strictly necessary.

Or you could even add one yourself:

I'm not an old timer so I don't know if sticht plates were sold with keeper cords or if it was a popular modification, but you see several many different devices with many different ways of attaching the cord:

Nothing special about these plates. Any plate style device will do, throw on some accessory cord as a keeper if wanted. Nothing to it.

Re the second post up… Hey, Ricky, that second photo of the angle piton and the Sticht plate is mine. BITD, I added that cord to keep the plate from inadvertently sliding down the rope (common, if belaying a second from above) or straying too far from the carabiner (typically, when belaying the leader off the harness… er, uh… the Swami belt). Back then, I think it was pretty common to do that basic modification.
Oh, and we usually used a locker with the plate, not that ancient non-locking oval depicted… we weren’t completely nuts!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
