Bar tack/stitch question

Will a barrel knot not handle your need? |
|
It is for a tether that was damaged.. I'm not wanting to have a barrel knot and its tail faffing around. I used it with a fisherman's when I had to cut it but wanted something streamlined (like original). |

Wasn't there a thread about a little metal sleeve that goes over the end of the rope that would do the same thing? |

When I replaced my cord on the Petzl Connect I used this craft tip. So far I've had no issue with the knot coming undone. For reference I am using it roughly 5 day/week. https://www.alpinesavvy.com/blog/make-a-stopper-knot-semi-permanent\ |

What's wrong with a clove hitch using the rope? |

Chris Lile wrote: IMO unnecessary. In 10+ years in the professional rope world I have never seen a pre loaded barrel knot loosen. Its standard to use a barrel knot as a stopper not in positioning lanyards. They also make a great handle, better than OEM tacked tail IMO. |

I have used a stopper knot (sans zip tie), and it was not a huge deal, did not worry, and I did not die. But I posted to see about getting it more streamlined. I do clove in at times and use a sling for raps, but I just kind of like the adjustability/speed the the "adjust". Maybe I'll burn it all tand go to the PAS thong that everyone raves about....... |

Drew Nevius wrote: Cable clamps would do it. 10mm is about 3/8in, but 1/4in would probably get the job done for most ropes(just bring it with to check). A basic u-bolt could work too. I'd cut off excess threads and file though. |
