Is it too early to head up there? The advice I’ve read suggests it can be pretty bad until early-mid August. Pls share any recent experience. Thanks!

Thanks. Was afraid of that. Would be grateful for the mp wisdom on when you would green light a climbing trip up there.

Not quite at the Sagueney, but I did climb for a day in early August at Kamouraska along the St. Lawrence not too far from there, and it was 'acceptable' in terms of the insect level, but it was a breezy day--and we weren't camping. But things usually improve in that regard by the middle of the August. There really is a pretty brief 'window' for good climbing conditions in that part of Quebec between the end of bug season and the start of 'almost winter'--which can be pretty early (mid-late Oct.) there.

Thanks Alan. It is a short season up there for sure. Hopefully starting in a few weeks vigilance will be rewarded this year.

I presume that you are going for one of the 'wall' routes on Cap Trinitie. I have never seen the cliff in person, but the pictures look very impressive. If you are looking for a more relaxing day of sport climbing either coming or going, I highly recommend Kamouraska, It is a gorgeous location with excellent climbing. The nearby village is very pleasant with good restaurants and there is a brew pub within walking distance of the campground. You can probably tell that these days I like my climbing to be 'civilized'!!!!

I was just there 2 weeks ago. There were zero bugs at the base of Cap Trinite. We lounged and swam. But the cliff was closed for peregrines,  so I'd check the status of that. There were a fair bit of mosquitos at the campground.

I also enjoyed Kamouraska. Not too crowded during the week. But not exactly on the way unless you take the ferry.

The Grand Jardin area has excellent climbing as well.

Thanks Ira. The peregrine closure has ended, so psyched to get up there in the next few weeks.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
