For well over 7 years, I owned a pair of Keens. Similar to the Targhee model they have, they were indestructible. I’ve hiked, worked, and pretty much lived out of them until the sole started peeling off. So I went ahead and dumped some good money on a new pair.

In less than 8 months, they have deteriorated in multiple spots. Stitching started to come apart, the rubber on the bottom began to peel in multiple spots, and even the toe cap began to peel. Maybe it’s because I started using them as approach shoes, and the odd scrambling to get to some routes might’ve worn them down quicker. They were still just as waterproof as the last pair, but they wore out WAY quicker then my old pair.

They have a one year warranty for defects, and they did honor it by sending me a whole new pair of boots, but after just one trip to a nearby crag, stitching is already coming apart.

Just wanted to post this so people are aware the quality of the shows aren’t what they used to be. Which is a bummer. They’re incredibly comfortable and waterproof, and I can stand in them all day, but I’m likely moving on to a new brand after these. Any recommendations?

Yeah I dumped that brand a few years back. It’s gone to shit. Try the Scarpa Mescalito, works great for wide feet, might want to go 1/2 up. I’m on year 3 of mine, look brand new.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
