**NEW COLORS** Belts made from retired climbing ropes
|
Climbing ropes are not biodegradable, so when they get thrown out, they end up sitting in a landfill for at least 30 years before they start to wash away. One way to prevent this problem is by making them into another good, which they actually lend themselves to due to their strength. I am trying to do this by starting a business that turns them into belts that actually look really cool, so if anyone wants to support this effort, here is my website: https://fitzoutfitters.com/ Edit: I just got some new colors of rope! I have already added most of them to the website, but there will still be a few more to come. Check out my website linked above to see them |

Love the idea but I am not a fan of that type of buckle. Any plans to add other options? I have one of these belts and it’s great https://www.rei.com/product/778974/mountain-hardwear-alloy-nut-belt |

Same as above. I’d consider buying one if it had a different buckle. |
|
Ditto. Probably donate my old rope too |

|
I wish you success but I would not buy one. The sheath is the part of the rope that wears the most and those already look tatty. The BD Diamond Mine Belt sells for $21. |

Good on ya! I think these are great! The more tatty the better. |
|
The real money maker would be turning people's personal "special" ropes into commemorative belts. For instance " this belt is made of the rope I first sent 5.12 on" or "my dad's rope" etc. |

Daniel Shanks wrote: Yeah, I was planning on eventually trying out some of these buckles: https://www.amazon.com/Swpeet-60Pcs-Inch-Gun-Black-Rectangle/dp/B08P5PQWWN/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?crid=2UH62RLRAKRMK&keywords=triglide%2Bbelt%2Bbuckle&qid=1656380602&sprefix=triglide%2Bbelt%2B%2Caps%2C74&sr=8-7&th=1&psc=1 Do you think that is something I should try sooner? Would you buy one with that buckle? |

tobias bundle wrote: I would love to do that, but shipping can get pretty expensive. Do you think people would be willing to pay for shipping to get their rope pieces to me? |

Would you consider buying a belt with this buckle? https://www.amazon.com/25-38mm-Adjuster-Hardware-Backpack-Supplies/dp/B099DSP7FZ/ref=sr_1_7?crid=2R98NNGI1H9F7&keywords=g%2Bhook%2Bbuckle%2B38mm&qid=1656441845&sprefix=g%2Bhook%2Bbuckle%2B38mm%2Caps%2C68&sr=8-7&th=1 |

if you wanted to offer the service of making a belt out of a rope somebody sent in the shipping shouldn’t be to much. Just tell them how much rope to send and have them pull the core strands out. I’m sure that would not cost much via USPS. |
|
Joshua FitzPatrick wrote: Yes. With the core removed it should fit in a small or medium envelope. |
|
Joshua FitzPatrick wrote: clicky. that one is cool |
|
Joshua FitzPatrick wrote: Yes, if I manage to wear out the one I made myself, your belts with that buckle would be a nice upgrade. |
|
I think I may make one just to play around. Anything special you do to make it stay flat? Just looks like a single pass zig-zag stitch along the length. |

Webfoot wrote: I just changed the price from $30 to $25, so now they are a much better price. These belts still may not be your thing, but for someone who wants a belt with a little bit of a story and wants to help the earth at the same time, this is not a bad deal for them. Also, according to Black Diamond's website, the mine belt is $30, so my belts are actually cheaper: https://www.blackdiamondequipment.com/en_US/product/diamond-mine-belt/ For anyone just now reading this, here is my website that I sell the belts on: https://fitzoutfitters.com/ |

Joshua FitzPatrick wrote: Cool. Thanks for taking my comment as I intended it, rather than disparagement. ($21 was the Amazon price btw.) |

Joshua FitzPatrick wrote: At $25/belt I hope you are making these in less than an hour, preferably 30 minutes. Or know it’s a labor of love (charity/hobby), and not profit. Black Diamond is selling mass produced in China belts. They are not your competition. |
