Will my nut tool support my weight?  Can it be used as an aid piece in a pinch?

Depends on which nut tool you have, but I’ve used my nut tool several times as a makeshift hook to allow me to free up two hands to drill a bolt on lead. If you get the right edge, it works great. I have the Metolius nut tool now, but I’ve used the old school style BD one and a USHBA one too

Most of them will, but their shape makes them kinda instable. I've done it but it wasn't my type of fun.

One of my early climbing partners, Ray, would always carry a bd grap hook or a medium talon on big free routes just in case, and this is a much better 'plan b'

My BD nut tool (circa 2003) has held my weight many times.

I do that occasionally while putting up new routes. I also carry a few pitons. Usually a #5 and 6 LA and a long thin KB.

I use my wild country Pro key to hook on occassion. Dont trust the leash,  but the tool itself will hold bodyweight given you have a good placement.

I believe the leash lists it's MBS as 5kg

Kitty Calhoun came to a trail day at Looking Glass Rock a few years back. Told us a story about dropping most of her rack off a big wall in Yosemite and topped out by doing a lot of nut tool hooking, pretty wild.

I have used my nut tool to reach an out of reach bolt several times on the same bolt on the same route. Hook the bolt and french to the stance.  I now have a nice stiffy for that task.

That's genius. Wouldn't have thought it would make a difference... until I remembered several stumper situations in which it would have made a huge difference.

Jumped on Free Blast a couple hundred years ago. You know that slabby crux move with the real slick smear? i couldn't figure it out, busted out the nut tool and 'hooked' past it.

You all are beasts! The most I’ve ever hooked with my nut tool are trees/bushes/vines on the walk off. Some “placements” seemed like they would easily hold body weight, though.  ; )

This is the most GJ sentence I have ever heard.

Omg TC!?! Don’t you have some shoes named after you?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
