What Sunglasses do you use for climbing?
|
Thinking of getting some glasses with good coverage for long days climbing, any recs? Looking at Julbo furies, Oakley sutro, or some smith glasses |
|
Those polarized sun cloud glasses in the rei outlet for $20. Glorious. It’s nice to have a few pairs. |
|
I get the $15 tinted safety glasses from Home Depot. They’ve got quite a few different styles so I can find one that fits well and isn’t too ugly. They work just fine, and I don’t have to feel bad when they get trashed. One of the few guarantees in life; all sunglasses used for climbing WILL get trashed. I always have a pair or 2 of really nice shades, Smith or RayBan, etc… but I NEVER take them to the crag. |

I’ve had the smith lowdown XL glasses for a couple years now. Use them for climbing and whitewater. They’re absolutely trashed now. Expensive is not the beta. |

I really like my Julbos with cat 2-4 photochromatics. One lens has a really big scratch. I was at a Texas two step and had it hanging from my pocket and brushed it up against someone's giant belt buckle in a crowd, it's held up very well for climbing though. Ultimately it doesn't bother me much though. The most amazing thing is that I've somehow managed not to lose them in 4 years. |

i was using the oakley jawbreaker with a prescription clip. but my depth of field was being affected.. dont know if the problem was the lens being too big and curve itself, or if it was the prescription clip behind the tinted lenses.. but the holds seemed way smaller to me, and i was skipping a lot of them, making the climb very stressfull.. |

I don’t know if you have Decathlon in Americaland, but they have decent, cheap sunnies. I got a polarized pair for $35 Canadian. |

Ombraz
I have a big head and I often get a headache from long days of my helmet straps pushing my sunglass arms into my skull. With the Ombraz, headache gone, all day comfort. Pretty durable but of course they scratch like any other. They come with their own slim soft case I got the largest size of the biggest frame and the coverage is great. Not good enough (or dark enough) for a glacier, but that’s what Julbo’s are for. |

Alex Fletcher wrote: Cool concept but man that price is a little rough. If they would do full glacier design and have photochromatics I would be all over them. My Julbos are the only glasses I've tried that don't give me headaches. |

99cent store. |
|
Shadyrays, guaranteed for life no questions asked. |
|
I have several pairs of Julbo in both reactiv and spectron 4. I like the montebianco currently, I actually just picked up the Monterosa which is a female model but I prefer the trim. |

Wrap around sport glasses with photchromatic lenses. Protect your eyes and adjust to changing light conditions. |
|
As long as it UV protection. Don’t spend your money on climbing specific brands, unless you are truly going to traveling on snow and glaciers all the time don’t waste your money on glacier glasses. The side shields on glacier glasses while good on snow just hinder your peripheral vision and starts to really become annoying. Suncloud makes good reasonably priced UV lens glasses and there are tons of other cheap brands that will work perfectly well. I personally like my Ray Bans but would never recommend someone spend that much on a pair of glasses that are probably going to end up being dropped and scratched. |

Kevin Mokracek wrote: Not all glasses with shield are the old school round lenses. My Julbos are more wrap around with the shields and don't hinder my peripheral vision. Unfortunately though they attach magnetically and I lost one of them when I was splitboarding in RMNP. I need to contact Julbo to see if they still make replacements. |

I have a pair of Native Catamounts that i have been wearing for years. They are super light that i forget that i am wearing them and fit under various helmets with ease. |
|
one time I found a pair of Ray Ban aviators in the yard of my college house so I wear those because they look cool and I didn't pay for them |
|
Good UV protection, excellent coverage, weigh nothing, a few bucks a piece, and indestructible. They're not fashionable but after breaking countless "sport" sunglasses in packs and pockets these are the best I've found. Their only problem is they scratch somewhat easily so I keep them in a glasses bag/soft case. |

I have several pairs of Target sunglasses... like 15-20$ a pair. Fairly certain they are polarized which is nice too. and if they fall off my face, get crushed/stepped on, forgotten, scratched, etc. its really no sweat off my back and ill just go get another pair |
|
knockaround. you won't feel bad if you trash them cuz they cost $20 |
