I knew Scott from doing Bikram yoga together in Stowe . He was a great guy and Fuck Vail.
It seems bizarre to me that the person running risk management doesn't have a STEM background. I would think operations research/IEOR would be appropriate. Then again, if it's more about knowing the standards and complying, that's a different story.
Another article that is pretty infuriating about the situation there. The company that built and maintained the zipline seems to have been fired over stowe's bickering and refusal to replace the tethers.
"A 2015 study in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine by Ohio State University researchers found that zip-line injuries sent 3,600 people to emergency rooms in 2012, mostly due to falls. About 12 percent of those riders had to be hospitalized — a rate that is "more consistent ... with adventure sports," the researchers said. "
Dang, thats a high number!
It sounds like Vail Industries is run by some really cheap bro dudes that don't give much of a crap besides making tons of money.
