Slimy Sweaty Hands By End Of Climbing Day?
|
Whenever I climb outdoors I find that my hands become very sweaty (almost slimy) by the end of the day. Obviously, this is not conducive to climbing hard. I believe part of it is because hands need a moist environment to heal (right?), but maybe also the fact that the crag I climb at is very dirty/mossy. Does this seem plausible? For reference, I'm in the NW, with low humidity... maybe that is also a factor? Any ideas on how to fix this? Maybe liquid chalk with alcohol to keep them clean? |

Put on certain dri 15 minutes before you're climbing, it makes a huge difference if you're a slimy sweater. |

I find that as my skin gets thinner throughout a day on rock my fingers become slightly more “oozy”. Sparing anti hydral use could help for outdoor days but might make you dry fire indoors. |

Wash your hands |

Are you keeping your hands clean from the rope? I probably climbed for 5 years without belay gloves but now I find them essential. |

Rock is harder on skin and thins it out, making it less difficult for sweat to come out. I also sweat like mad when descending in elevation |

Define low humidity? 10%? 60%? Also, is this northwest climbing on basalt? Cause that can get awfully slimy feeling. Something gritty that bites into your hands is way less affected by humidity. Sometimes it’s just the rock type. I do like to wash my hands really well before my first chalking. Sometimes a lotion or salve from hours before, or even the day before seems to make a difference (in a bad way). Hands in the stream and scrub with dirt and sand if no sink is available works fine too. |
