solid stick DEET - what happened to it?

For the last few years, I have found DEET in solid stick form to be harder and harder to get.  Amazon and REI list the Repel brand, but say it's out of stock and don't know when it will come back.  Repel website can't find anything near me or on line. I strongly prefer the solid so it doesn't (a) get on your hands and (b) doesn't run and drip after you spray it on (e.g. into your eyes), (c) doesn't get on your gear, e.g. eat your rope.

* DOes anyone know what's the deal, why is it so hard to get?  Did they discontinue it just because it was better, to frustrate consumers, as usual? Did the waxy solid turn out to be carcinogenic?

* Does anyone know of any leftovers near you?

If there is some less messy method of application than spray-on, it would be great to hear from you.  Please, however, take the DEET vs. DEET-free argument somewhere else.  You have the right to that discussion, that's OK by me, it's just that it would be better to do that separately.  That's the better way to go about that.

Thanks,

Some Trump supporter made a TikTok about using DEET sticks as suppositories to ward off the worst symptoms from the fake coronavirus so now there’s a nationwide shortage.

Rhino Skin Solutions makes a great safe bug spray.  Metlius climbing tested on nylon and dynema slings.  No degredation.

I've seen bug repellent in lotion form, like sunscreen (some combined with sunscreen). That would probably work.

Also, check out stuff made with picaradin. Essentially as effective as DEET but doesn't melt plastic (it's not the ineffective hippie nonsense).

Speaking of hippie nonsense, Repel lemon eucalyptus spray works.  Got me through 2 weeks on African safari and a bunch of camping trips.  Mosquitos love me.  Haven't tried the Murphy's stick yet, but will do so in a couple weeks.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
