free car camping in rumney/ new hampshire?
|
hey all does anyone know if car camping is allowed at rumney or other climbing areas out in the northeast? compared to AZ, the creek, or other climbing areas out west it’s a lot harder to find a spot to pull your car up to and spend the night. does anyone have any recommendations? |

Depends on how you define car camping. I have cooked out of my car in the rumney lot at the end of the day and then drove to the walmart and slept there (10 min away). Can be kinda bright and I would suggest getting something to cover your windows. If you're referring to "free" as BLM land where you can do what you want, it doesn't really exist in the north east. Sadly different due to land ownership and population density, that's about the end of it. If you want the camping experience id recc mountain pines or AAC. Cute little campgrounds nearby with amenities for $10. |

Welcome to New England, where all the land is somebody's land. Barn Door Hostel is also a good spot to car camp for cheap. |

For Rumney I go to the barn door. https://www.barndoorhostel.com/ There are plenty of free spots in NH. Typically dirt roads that run through national forest yield positive results. |

I would not call it plenty. There are some spots in nh. Closer you get to climbing areas the harder it is to park and sleep. Nothing free about a country that makes it illegal to sleep in a rest area. Plymouth wall mart is very sloped. Bring leveling blocks. Littleton is nice and flat. As always privacy curtains and bug big screens are key. We saw a half naked attractive young woman sleeping in the back of a Subaru with the hatch open in a fishing access parking lot in Wyoming. Obviously living in the vehicle. I sometimes wonder how she is doing and if she is still with us, healthy happy and unharmed. |
