How does the Misty Mountain Turbo/Sonic fit?

Unfortunately the usual sport climbing harness recommendations from Petzl/BD/Edelrid fit me poorly in one way or another. The Siurana medium actually fits well but gear loops are small and too far back. They changed the sizing on the Arc'teryx C-quence. The FL-365 medium fits great, but the C-quence leg loops are enormous now. I like fixed leg loops. I am interested in trying a Misty, but no one around me stocks them, and I don't know anyone who wears one.

Is anyone who wears a Misty Turbo or Sonic willing to share how theirs fits and what their measurements are? (I heard that the Bolt and Cadillac fit a little differently.) I'm squarely in the middle on the leg loop sizing for a medium but my waist is at the upper end of the medium. I'm also worried that the gear loops will be asymmetrical on my hips which I couldn't stand. If I go with a large, then I'm worried it'll be a little loose as I usually tighten up the harness as the day goes on a little bit. I usually wear a size 30-31 in pants/jeans. 32 is pretty loose, so it seems wild I'd be a large with Misty, since a medium Arc'teryx is fully tightened down on my waist, but if they fit small, then it could be good. If they run a little large I could ask them for a large waist and medium leg loops, which I've heard they will accommodate. Thanks for any help.

Large will be too loose. I’m 32 pant and Medium fits great.

But if you want to be sure toss them an email, they can take a bit to respond but when they do they are helpful.

I have a 31 inch waist and skinnish thighs.  I get Misty to make a custom with a large waist and med leg loops. It works well for me, and the gear loops are mostly symmetric. Misty Mountain uses your actual waist size, not what your pants say. Most pants these days are 1-2 inches bigger than their claimed measurement.

I ended up doing a custom harness bc of similar issues as to what Eric said.

Are the leg loops symmetrical on your hips?

I'm like a 32-33 waist which is right at the end of the medium. 32 pants are kinda loose on me. Someone else is a 31 waist and wears a large above. Thanks for help.

Thanks. I think I have the opposite problem. Adjustable leg loops could be an option, but not my first choice. Mind sharing your waist measurement and size you wear?

I wear a 30x30 jeans, but have big cyclist thighs and a butt. I bought a medium sonic and a small trubo. The turbo I had to return because I couldn't get my legs through the holes. The medium I have to cinch down the leg loops which initially I dind't like but I've grown accustomed to them!

Thanks that's really helpful. How does the medium waist fit? Do you have room to tighten down any further? My waist is just a bit bigger I think. Trying to get the fit right before I order. Appreciate the help.

I have the waist pretty much all the way tight if I wear softshell pants. If I were buying again I think I'd buy a womens small, as I hear they have a smaller waist and larger leg loops.

I think that's what I did. Some combination of women's medium waist and small men's leg loops.

Kevin, I don't have beta on the Misty harnesses, but I'm a 32" waist and went through the same problem after my favorite FL-365 getting retired. I have a C-quence as well and also don't wear it much now.

I've grown to really like the new Mammut Sender for sport climbing. I don't tighten it down all the way in size medium with a 32" waist, so it should still be good for an inch smaller. Might be worth checking out if you want other comfy, fixed leg loop options.

That's really great info. Thank you. I thought about the Mammut Sender but don't have an opportunity to try them on. They sure make great ropes.

Just to clarify, your waist measures 32" or you wear 32 pants? My waist measure 32-33 depending on time of day, and a FL-365 in medium fits perfectly. I tighten it down with only about 1" of webbing left before the buckle hits the other side.

I haven't measured my waist in a long time, but I consistently wear a 32" pant. That sounds like exactly where I would tighten down my FL-365 to, before I trashed it.

About the symmetric gear loops. Asymmetric gear loops bother me too. I found if you get a harness with two buckles for the waist belt, they can be adjusted to always center the tie in points and gear loops. I have a singing rock dome. It has one quick adjust buckle and one double back. The double back stays put, so once properly adjusted just cinch the quick adjust and everything is centered.

Poking around the forums a bit more, this is a very common question. There are many threads with similar requests. Unfortunately, it seems 50/50 on whether or not you should size up or size down. Half are adamant they run small. Half say they run large. Here are some I found for anyone with a similar question. I think if I had to choose, I'd size up so you can fully tighten it and have the gear loops centered on your hips, although based on the above, I think I'll be trying to try on a Mammut Sender if it fits like the FL-365.

I’ve been rocking the updated Misty Mountain Turbo recently. Awesome harness. At about a 30 inch waist, the waist belt fits me perfectly. I have maybe another inch or so that it could be tightened. For reference, depending on the pants, size 30s on me either are a bit loose or fit properly, but they’re never too small. On average they are slightly loose. I would say the sizing of the size medium Turbo waist is comparable to a size small C-quence, with the C-quence being just slightly bigger (I have to tighten it down a little bit more). I find the fit of the waist on the Turbo, as far as circumference goes, to be identical to the Cadillac.

At 6 feet 160 lbs, I have relatively skinny legs for my frame, but they’re not insanely skinny. Kind of just normal climber legs. At first I thought the fixed leg loops on the Turbo would be a bit tight, but after climbing in it a few times it turns out they’re perfect. They’re significantly tighter than the fixed leg loops on the size small C-quence, so if you have big legs I’d consider getting a custom one, or just grabbing the Sonic instead.

Misty harnesses seem to just fit me the best. I have an old Cadillac as well, and the placement of the gear loops on both my Cadillac and Turbo sit perfectly on my body. They’re also quite comfy harnesses, and I love supporting an awesome, small company like Misty Mountain.

Hope this helps people figure out their sizing!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
