Summarizing the Rock Warrior's Way

I noticed that a lot of friends & people I've run into at the crag never actually read the Rock Warrior's way. Though they all talked as if they did... I decided to start doing a summary of the book chapter by chapter.   youtu.be/aSDmpu4GFfo

What do you guys think?

Commenting so I can watch later. Have the book on my shelf but haven't gotten around to it and want to read it first

There's an espresso shots version (short easy to read broken up version) available if memory serves. It sounds like a lot more people should buy that version maybe.

It has turned out to be a great book. More people I ran into are reading the espresso version.  I haven't read it yet but sounds more digestible.

I released chapter 3 summary tonight. -- youtu.be/Mrv2S9cfJLE

Do you think Bruce Lee became a master by taking shortcuts?

Dad joke!

But really folks, WW is quite simple yet a long journey and the Clif notes leaves out alot. Take a clinic if they're still out there doing those.

I still yell at people "When you're resting, REST!"

Funny anecdote: I scared the shit out of a WW instructor when I led him up a 4th class (some would say 5th class) approach pitch solo. I was like "aren't you supposed to be all mind over matter"????

Can’t you essentially get the same benefit by streaming a season or two of the old “Kung Fu” series?

Or just show up at your favorite local?

Nice summary Andrew! For folks dragging their feet or struggling to find the motivation to read it, it does exist as an audiobook read by Arno. I really liked that format having struggled to get more than halfway through the book a few times.

My favorite anecdote from that system was a woman who used to post a lot here and on the taco who took a WW clinic and then promptly broke her knee takeing practice falls. keeping in mind that Arno was an Aikido guy and their entire system is based on falling I get why he is so obsessed with it.   I did a fair bit of aikido and more Aki jitsu BINTD and their falling is amazing. (two of our Aki Jitsu instructors having fun)

I made falling practice  a standard part of every martial arts class that I taught. Never did carry that mindset over to ice climbing though ;)  Now at 60 years old I try to avoid falling.

I've read "Vertical Mind: Psychological Approaches for Optimal Rock Climbing" and I enjoyed it. And I recently picked up RWW and look forward to reading it as well.

It would be cool to see a discussion of both books juxtaposed. How each one is similar, but perhaps takes different approaches to reach the same goals. I'll do some of this on my own, but it's nice to hear other people's thoughts as well.

Seriously?  And we need a summary?  Or Clif Notes?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
