Devil's Head Camping
|
Does anyone know if the camping around Devil's Head or Rampart Range is clear of snow/roads good yet? |

The road still might be closed. They usually keep it closed until mid May depending on the snow. Not 100% sure though! https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/psicc/recarea/?recid=80379 |

Thanks! |

Just a heads up, a lot of the camping there is now on a reservation system. I think some is still first come first serve though. Recreation dot gov has the details. |

Hopefully it will open earlier this year as the foothill snow is melting fast, but it's not open yet. There may be some changes to the camping process this year, so read the signs and ask questions to the staff if things aren't clear. |

I called the ranger station at 303-275-5610. Rampart Range Road is open but the Devil's Head trailhead is not, "until late May or June." I asked him if any other climber trailheads were open in the area, and he replied, "not in our district that I am aware of." |

Derek Lawrence wrote: If Rampart Range Road is open, does that mean open dispersed camping along the road too? It'll be my first time going there to climb - looks like reservations for dispersed sites start at the end of May, but it's hard to tell if that means you can't camp now at all or if it's just first come first serve. |

B S wrote: There are people camping so it must be first come first serve. The people I ran into on Sunday had camped. They said that they self-paid at the booth at the entrance to RRR and then went and found a site. The concessionaire later came by, checked that they paid, and gave them the stub to hang. |
