Anybody try the new version of the OR crack gloves yet?

From the photos they seem to have a bit more rubber for fist jamming (mostly on thumb, but also pinky side of hand), and the wrist strap faces the other way so maybe it will abrade less.

The OR crack gloves are great.  Ocun if you want a thicker/burlier layer of protection

70% off on the old version is pretty good

I really liked the previous version except that the Velcro wasn’t sticky enough and the thumb loop was too baggy. I inadvertently clipped the thumb loop into gear a couple of times and got stuck. Has the thumb loop changed?

Crack climbing is tough on your hands. Repeated jamming frequently causes an eruption of gobies, large open abrasions on the backs of your hands, fingers, forearms, elbows, knees, and sometimes even your back.

To combat this, most people use cotton athletic tape to cover their skin and provide an additional layer of protection. But this typically means using multiple rolls of tape, spending time taping up, and being left with an icky black residue on your hands at the end of the day.

In the past several years, a few companies have started to make pre-made tape gloves with a sticky rubber back and velcro closure. Outdoor Research is the latest company to enter the crack gloves world, and probably the most recognizable brand involved so far, so I was interested to see what they brought to the table.

No offense, but this reads like weird blog copy.

Aaaaand they joined mp today. Suspicious, suspicious.

I'm curious about these new ones too. The earlier version didn't last more than two trout creek trips. I switched to the black diamond ones and have been happy with them. Two Indian Creek, multiple trout and lots of index - a year later and the Velcro is just starting to go. If you get them, let's hear it!

Bumping to see if anyone else has any comments/review with the updated version?

Mostly wondering if they are any more durable in regards to the rubber peeling off and the Velcro straps ripping off.

Bumping to see if anyone has comments on the updated OR gloves? My BD gloves have been causing weird back-of-hand pain and I'm looking to switch.

I've been digging mine for the past year. Durability has been as expected, plenty comfortable. I haven't had any rubber delaminating on mine, and the Velcro strap is still very functional. The Velcro strap and finger holes are the areas seeing the most wear so far, which is pretty typical for climbing mostly finger to hand sized cracks with them on. I do really like how slim the finger hole loops are for when you get into the .5-.75 jams and really need to work your finger/knuckle into the crack without having the finger loop getting in the way. Honestly, the highest compliment I can pay them is that they just do what you would expect and haven't been an issue.

Did you own the original Splitter gloves as comparison? Is the velcro better on the Splitter II?

No, just the version 2 so nothing to directly compare against. From the looks of the failure pictures on the Splitter 1, I can at least say that mine haven't had anywhere near that level of damage to the Velcro and I have no problem with the strap staying closed.

I bought a pair of these and it seems like the new design cured all of the problems with the old model. The velcro is much beefier and the finger loops seem sturdier and tighter to the skin with less potential to snag on gear.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
