Using 12 mm bolt in 1/2 inch drilled hole
|
My buddy put up some anchors and used a 1/2 inch drilled hole, but then only had 12 mm bolts and assumes that they are close enough for safety, but i wanted to make sure and ask you guys. Thanks for the help! |

If they're glue in bolts that's fine. It's they're mechanical bolts then definitely not. |

+1 for mechanical bolt absolutely not! |

Would be great for more info on the bolts. I assume they are wedge 12mm bolts? Would love some photos too - since the stud is likely a ways out of the hole to get the expansion needed. |

Yes mechanical wedge bolts. Ok great to know, ill tell him to get those out asap! |

Fyi team tough has 12mm bits for decent price. |

Haven’t there been documented failures because of this exact situation? I want to say a fatal accident in Australia but I can’t really remember. |

Not OK at all, 1/2" is 13mm (actually 12.8, but 13mm is a rough approximation). Did the bolts even start to snug down when tightened? Seems unlikely unless his 1/2" bit was super worn down. Pulled a 12mm Petzl Long-life out of a 1/2" hole in Joshua Tree one time - just wiggled it out with a nut tool. |
