I wore the old Chimera (yellow) in 39.5 and the same size in the new Chimera (black).

I feel the new model broke in more easily, but they seem to be pretty much the same shoe.

I've never worn the old Mago, but I had tried them on and they didn't seem to fit me.

I have a wider foot and the 2022 Mago fits me better. I got the Mago's in 39.5 and they are a bit tighter than my Chimeras.

It seems to be taking a few days to break in the new Mago. I've worn them for  15-20 or so pitches (3-4 days) and they are still breaking in.

The Magos do seem to smear ok which is nice for a stiffer shoe. They are quite asymmetric and I'm ambivalent about the heel. The heel seems to be similar to the booster.

Enjoy!

Luke

Do you feel the new Mago mich stiffer than chimeras?

Yes the heel is the same of booster...and also tension system is very similar, but with less holes and more tension...the biggest difference with booster in my opinion is the shape of the tip and the rubber on top of the toes ....booster have thicker rubber more contenitive for fingers...mago uses m50 rubber, softer and more adaptable to finger shape and also gives more under pressure..

The last of mago and new chimeras is the same , but the new Mago Has more space in the upper part of toes, to accomodate more toe curl..if you have no pain in the big toe tip i suggest to go half size down...for sure the heel will be filled better...

If you already feel the chimera is short and giving you hard time on the tip of the big toe go for the same size and you will just feel a little bit more space from side to side ..

Anyway same size in my case is good...so might be more a bet going half size down...

I love the toe box of the Chimeras. The heel is the issue. It's too baggy for my small heels.

There's no pain in the big toe, there is a bit of discomfort in the 3rd toe but i solved that with a bit of glossy tape.

Would it take away from the shoe if i go have a size down from the chimera? Like too much stress on the materials?

Huh, the mago looks a tad bit shorter than the chimera. Is it actually or it's just in the photo?

I agree looking at the photo, but it also appears to be more assymetric, so it could be the same actual length, just curved more.

The heel of mago is softer and more baggy on the inner side compared to chimera....toe box is wider...so 3rd toe should feel much better...

Tension system is stronger than chimeras...i think mago can take quite hard downsizing...but i personally would not go more than half size down from chimeras.....but my feet are different than your...to each his own....it is hard to give advices without trying the shoes on...

Anyone have any updates on the 2022 Magos vs. last iteration? I was disappointed when they changed both the boostics and the magos (My two favorite shoes) but I have begrudgingly realized I kind of love the new Boostics (more applicable to single pitch sport and bouldering).  Wondering if they made meaningful improvements to the magos as well.  In my head it was a perfect shoe and they could have only made it worse haha

I have both and been using the new model at the gym quite a bit it's not the same shoe at all, it flattened out real quick and definitely doesn't hold it's downturn for very long, it feels softer for sure, the material inside the shoe is real comfortable probably why I still wear it and it's good for smearing and on 3d gym holds, I don't wear them outside because they are too soft, and not much of a bouldering shoe because the heel is still soft even though they added that strip  on the back overall not impressed I plan on resoling with xs edge to see if I get any more stiffness out of it. But the old model on the other hand! if they could have just added some badass heel on that thing it would have been a quiver killer nothing fits my toes as perfect as those shoes I resoled it with xs edge and it never lost its downturn one bit I have a couple stocked up in the closet haha

Does anyone have size comparison info between 2018 Mago and 2022 version as far as length from heel to toe? I’ve heard and read the volume is larger in 2022 but heard nothing as far as actual size to size.. thanks!

Exact same size for me, I even tried to down size and sent a pair back they were to tight.  But would still rather have the 2018 version

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
