BD Cliff Cabana Fly soooo hard to set up

I cant be the only one having this problem. My partner bought a Deluxe Cliff Cabana double fly and when we did a trial set up in his basement, we had the hardest time getting it assembled. Has anyone mastered this and have any tips or advice on how to get the ledge assembled inside the fly?

When we set it up, we were not even attached to a wall so we could just walk around on the floor and we still had a hell of a time. I cant imagine doing this while tethered to a vertical wall.

The biggest challenge comes from the fly totally encasing the ledge on the bottom. We were envisioning (incorrectly, I know) that it was just a tarp that would drape down over the ledge, but because it has a floor of its own, you have to either build the ledge inside of the fly, or build it separately and then try to shove it into the fly. Both options sucked.

We are thinking about just cutting the floor out of the fly and adding straps that will cinch it closed underneath the fly. Is this a terrible idea?

Any productive advice is appreciated!

As a follow up, if anyone has a Cliff Cabana Simple Fly that they're looking to get rid of, let me know!

This guy has some tips you might find useful.

I ended up buying the Metolius ledge after seeing how finicky the BD one is.

Thanks for those with useful info..

We did read all the instructions and the video that Sam posted was the only thing that actually helped us get the thing put together.

I was hoping to hear from someone who has actually used one extensively to see if there are any other tips or strategies that people have come up with from experience.

James W, do you own one of these fly's or have you set one up before? Did you find the instructions to be helpful, because I thought they were pretty much garbage.

What helped me the most was sliding and bunching all of the fabric to the opposite side of the poll you’re trying to pop in. You really have to bunch it up as much as you can. Spreader bar goes on slightly diagonal with brute force.

Can’t help you with the fly. I use a simple.

The instructions were garbage. Using the perspective of looking at it towards the wall. I put the right side in and settle them into the corner pockets of the fly. Next, I put the left wall side corner in its fly pocket. Finally, I stretch and in a rolling motion as to not rip the fly on the left air side corner get the left airside corner in its pocket. Surely easier said than done. Hope it helps. Essentially stuffing the ledge into a bag.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
