I recently watched the French language anime film “Summit of the Gods” on Netflix. The story follows a climbing photo journalist that finds himself search of George Mallory’s fabled vest pocket camera. he comes across a legendary mountaineer that allows him to follow him up Everest (there is much more to the story than this). If you haven’t seen it, I highly suggest stopping RIGHT HERE and not spoiling it for yourself, go watch it. If you have seen it, I would like to open up a discussion about any of the climbing scenes, scenarios, shots, history, any aspect of the film that touched you as a climber. Personally, there were several shots in the film (mainly Buntaro hanging helplessly upside down in space, looking back at the mountains (upside down) realizing his death is inevitable, and makes the decision that Habu couldn’t (even though he said he would) to cut the rope. This shot is now engrained in my brain, and I am not backlogging in my brain all of the times that I have amaturely guided  friends up multi pitches, without any real proper safety/rescued skills/knowledge. I think this film had a significant yet positive impact on me as a climber, as I feel I will looking more objectively at dangerous climbing situations, and try not to allow anyones ego to push the safety envelope further. I’m super curious of what you guys think about this film.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
