I use Billy Goat Plates and they work really well. They are quite secure on steep terrain due to how they incorporate crampons and use of front points. They weigh 650g/pair and stow easily in a pack. Great way to avoid wallowing in deep conditions. I've gotten up some steep couloirs with the plates, that otherwise would have been impossible. I think the only reason they are not more widely used is that a lot of people don't know about them, other than in B.C. and around Whistler/Pemberton where they were invented.
theses aren’t certified but theyre stupid light and make me bring them if I think I could be boot packing. Toe piece is nice as it could be useful as well

They weigh slightly more than Billy Goat Plates (777g vs 650g), but 319 Swiss Francs = $347 US. Expensive!
I have the BGT Ascent plates. They work great. More packable than Verts, and can handle harder/punchable snow and rocks better. However, the Verts definitely are superior in super deep, soft snow.
BGT Ascent + Petzl Leopard crampons is a great kit for ski mountaineering.
