Has anyone had De Quervain's release suegery? Ortho recommended to me, as my wrist is so tight to a point I lost almost all range of motion side to side (moving wrist towards thumb or pinky). I started experiencing the symptoms since last winter, got a shot in spring, had relief for quite a few months, until a month long climbing trip at the red messed in up in October again, and it's been getting worse since.

If anyone has gone through this, please share your experience. Thanks!

I had the release surgery and it worked great. My thumb was stuck in a permanent out position.  I had tried everything from splints to acupuncture-- surgery worked like a charm and I went on a week long canoe trip just 2 wks after surgery.  I went to an experienced doc at Seattle Hand Surgery.  That was 15 years ago and haven't had any problems since. Never hurts when climbing.  Good luck!

hey, did you get the surgery in the end?

I'm dealing with a second time of De Quervain's inflammation a year apart from my first one. The first one took me 3 months off climbing... I hope this time I caught it sooner but I'm quite concerned also as I have a course coming up. goddamn it... Any advice? Did you climb with yours at all?

No I didn't get the surgery... I sprained my A2 pulley a few months after posting the question, so that forced me to completely stop climbing for a couple months. And I guess that just healed it... haven't had the problem since then.
