Arcteryx 395A vs C-quence

I've had my 395 for many years now and it's time to replace it. I would normally just buy another 395 but they're sold out everywhere (anyone know where I can find a medium?).

My question is, has anyone switched from the 395 to the C-Quence? What was your take on having a fix legged loop? I've tried liking a previous harness with fixed leg look but it seemed way to tight for my thighs. I typically wear a M harness (waist is 30-32 depending on what I had the day before)

They discontinued it. I saw a medium ar395 in the for sale thread for $50 that looks brand new.

I picked one up in size small about 2 weeks ago in person from Neptune Mountaineering in Boulder, Colorado. A quick search doesn't show one on their site, but you could give them a call to see if they happen to have one left (or maybe a floor model?).

I was never able to get the C-Quence to work for the same reason - my legs are too thick for the waist size I'm at. Probably because I cycle quite a lot - it definitely limits my harness options. I also have a Petzl Adjama that I quite like. Not as nice as the 395a, but fits me well and is less expensive.

I think (hope) they just discontinued last season's color, right? Have you seen any press releases or other info on it being more than that? I'm assuming they'll bring in a new 2022 color, which isn't here yet likely due to all the global supply chain issues. While I suppose it's possible they could entirely discontinue the line, it seems unlikely as it's a beloved-by-many bit of kit and they don't have anything else quite like it.

I shouldn't have said they discontinued it, but there's another thread on MP where someone claims that it has been discontinued. I know arcteryx was bought again in 2019 and I did read an article saying they were focusing on expanding their chinese market and were moving towards lifestyle fashion. Total bummer. Maybe someone who has access to a flagship store in Canada can correct me if I'm wrong.

It might be my entirely subjective opinion, but I switched to the c-quence from the 395a. I like the gear loops much better, and found the fixed loops big enough to accommodate my legs for climbing in the summer as well as with layers in the winter. It's been an upgrade for me. Still has ice clipper slots and is easier to slip on. I found it honestly harder to get the fixed loops to tighten properly with the 395a

Yah, fit is so subjective, which is what makes recommendations in harnesses, shoes, etc. so hard. I want so badly for my legs to fit fixed loops, but they just won’t in many cases. Glad that they work well for others, though! Several C-quench, several BD options, etc. all look so enticing to me - with that one deal breaker.

Fair - I’ll keep an eye out - and my fingers crossed that not too much changes! Arcteryx fits my personal body type better than almost any other brand, so I hope they still stay true to some of their heritage/customer base!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
