Camping at West Side of Pinnacles?

Hey Folks,

I'm planning on making my first trip to climb on the west side of Pinnacles NP in the next couple weeks, before the raptor closures are put in effect. Does anyone have beta on camping options on the west side? Is backcountry camping allowed in the park, or would finding a campground near Soledad be the best bet?

Thanks!

No campground on the West Side.  Back country camping is not allowed in the park.  If you don't mind a relatively flat hike you could camp at the East Side campground, use the Old Pinnacles trailhead and hike in.

One climber who lives and works at Pinnacles (NPS employee) walks to the West Side on Old Pinnacles Trail every time he climbs on that side. About two miles of very pretty, very flat hiking. So the East Side campground is a good bet (part of the reason that he walks, BTW, is because it takes longer to drive around than it does to walk that trail).

Thanks for the info! Sounds like that's what we'll be doing :)
