Hello everyone.

I want to get my first pulley, and I couldn't find a comparison chart online for the Micro Traxion vs Pro Traxion vs Nano Traxon.

I was wondering which one is better. Is there anything the Pro Traxion can do that the Micro can't? And vice versa? Thanks

Protraxion is for hauling when also using it as a progress capture pulley with force applied such as a 1:1 or 3:1 setup. 95% efficiency and 9oz weight, plus the ability to attach/detach the haul line without removing the device from the anchor point.

Microtraxion is a 3+ oz, 91% efficient device.

Nanotraxion is a 2+ oz, 91% efficient device, similar to microtrax, but no locking latch for the progress capture.

Thanks. I also want to do some occasional TR self-belay. From my online searches, it seems like there's lots of articles to do it on the MicroTraxion. Can you also do it on the ProTraxion?

Don't forget the mini traxion!  (although I think they're out of production).  The Micro seems to be the most versatile and widely-used.  Nano is new so there isn't a ton of community experience.  Maybe ask in the aid climbing forum about the Pro, e.g. https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/111568538/micro-traxion-vs-pro-traxion

Hmm, not really sure. I’ve never heard of anyone using a Protrax for TR solo, only Micros or Nanos. I use a Micro + CT RollnLock.

Micros are great if you want to both haul and TR solo. The Pro is only if you want to haul 1:1 or majorly heavy loads that would require 3:1. 2:1 Hudon kit doesn’t take advantage of the Pro ‘s efficiency gain.

The Nano is good for TR solo, but could be a pain for hauling.

Not TRS but routesetting in a gym: We switched from micro Trax to pro Trax a couple of years ago. As mentioned upthread, putting in / taking out the rope without having to fiddle with the carabiner is great, and the whole unlock / keep unlocked mechanism is much smoother on the pro Trax. Plus, operating it with gloves works like a charm. Still, I wouldn't want that clunky thing anywhere near me when sport climbing.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
