My brother-in-law has been dealing with a serious fall injury that occurred 8 months ago.  He has been dealing with pain and strength and range of motion loss in both hands since and has not found a wrist specialist with positive results.  He is in the Reston, Va area and is looking for a specialist recommendation.  As an older climber I told him I would reach out to my climber community as I have been very thankful for insights and suggestions I have received through this site.  Thanks.

It shouldn’t be too hard to find either a hand surgeon or orthopedist w specialty in upper extremity in your area. Concerning that it is both hands and u might at least consider the possibility that his head or neck is involved

Has he got an MRI of his wrists? I had a (non-climbing) hyper extension wrist injury that was mis diagnosed and treated with PT for 6 months which only made it worse. I finally got an MRI and they found a torn scapho-lunate ligament that required surgery. Xrays didn't show the damage.

K thanks for considering.  He’d had an MRI two weeks after but didn’t get relief from the treatment. He has managed to get in to a different orthopedic person and hopefully will get some resolution. Thanks again for your response.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
