Got a new house and am building a gear room. Debating peg boards can slat boards.  Don’t plan to hang trad gear as I just keep it in my pack ready to go. Instead I plan to hang a hodge lodge of frequently stuff depending on the season for whatever I’m doing that day. Plan to hang stuff like sun glssses, gloves, hat, cycling jersey   I live near a large area of public land with great road and mountain biking trail running, Nordic skiing etc so want to have a system to keep gear ready to go.

The main question is aesthetics.  If it is more utilitarian you’re not trying to achieve a “decor”, use the peg board.

Personally, I use the slat board in my basement gear room for aesthetics.  It looks awesome and makes the room look more finished.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
