Any thoughts about Arcteryx Konseal approach shoes?

I'm looking for an approach shoe that can handle some trailrunning/fastpacking in addition to easy scrambling up to low 5th class, and the FL2 and LT models look like they might work, but I'd prefer not to order both and send one back.  Does anyone have personal experiences with these?  They don't seem to be quite as popular based on the number of results in a cursory search.

They'd suck for running in, if you don't care about how it does for technical climbing get a trail shoe with sticky rubber, high end salomon or la sportiva bushido something like that.

I split both toe caps after one season of alpine climbing in RMNP. Arcteryx refused to warranty. But then I continued using them for another year afterwards, so…

Nice fit, very comfortable, don’t climb awesome but hike well. So-so durability.

I have a pair - they're ok. Super stiff to run in, and I was using them to run laps on the 2nd flatiron a bunch earlier this year. I've switched to just using my Altras for that now for comfort on the run down, but they were really great in terms of grip when I was getting the hang of things. Not great for running in my opinion, I hear good things about the Sportiva Mutants in that capacity though.

Thanks for the info!  Are you referring to the FL2 or LT?

Love the Scarpa Rapids for this purpose.

Just sent you a PM about those, but I figured I'd put it here: do you have any comparison between the Rapids and the LS TX2?

I haven't used the TX2's enough to have an opinion. I will say that the Rapids are a trail runner that can climb, not the other way around. I make no compromises with what I want out of a running shoe with the Rapids, but they can also climb better than any other dedicated trail runners I've used. The mesh gets chewed up if you crack climb in them in any capacity, though.

For something like Exum Ridge, Flatirons, or just general mountain scrambling they are the ideal shoe!

Scarpa Spin

Dynafit Alpine

Sportiva Mutants

Usually use of these for flatirons and generally up to 5.6. North chimney on longs for example. All have approach shoe rubber on them. Way more comfortable to run in these trailrunners. Or get then resoled!

Bummer. I'm looking for the reverse: an approach shoe that can run.  Thanks though!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
