BD front points are STILL out of stock, does anyone have any recommendations for third party alternatives? Planning on climbing a bunch of pure ice this winter with a couple mixed/Alpine routes thrown in.

Would love to hear what others have used in the past.

Cheers!

Haven't used their Stinger points specifically, but I've been very happy with Krukonogi front points for my Petzl Lynx, been super durable.

Kuznia also makes points for BD pons. Probably cheaper than BD replacements too.

Does anyone know the specs on the bolt?  I'll just buy the minimum order from Mcmaster

I have it noted as 2" long 10-32 to match OEM. I'd suggest getting new nuts too.

I messaged BD and they wrote me this.

Thanks for reaching out! It looks like we have a shipment of those frontpoints scheduled to arrive on 1/17, so we should be seeing them restocked on the site around a week after that.

BD have been sold out on replacements for years. And I’ve emailed them a few times and only gotten radio silence. It makes sense though - don’t sell the replacements so then you need to buy whole new pair of crampons. $15 versus hundreds.

For YEARS? That’s funny, it was directly from BD I bought a replacement set of front points about 8 months ago.

Yes DeLa Cruce - for “YEARS”. Maybe 4 now. I’m glad you find it funny. Every time I’ve looked they’re sold out and like I said they never respond to emails inquiring about status. If you ever see replacement please let me know.

It’s not funny you haven’t got ahold of some, but saying they they are out of stock for years isn’t true. And that’s funny. But all one can do is keep checking, checking, and maybe give up and get a Sport Steinle and Krukonogi instead?  What have you done for four years, just sharpen the points to death? I would think after four years, I would just give up and buy a new set

It has been years. Why would i lie? To put down Black Diamond? I love their products. And yes - when you climb ice as much as i do you do wear down your front points sharpening them. And if you think about it - they're producing plenty of new crampons, that use the front points. So for them to be out of stock all the time i just don't buy it. And CLEARY i'm not the only one having this problem. Even checking our local climbing shop they haven't been able to get restocked in years either. I just did order the Sport Steinle. I'm looking forward to trying them out!

It’s not that you are lying, it’s that you are wrong. Just because you didn’t manage to grab some when they were available, doesn’t mean “they have been out of stock for years”, but it just means you missed out. Btw, would love to hear your opinion on the sport steinle. My complaint with the BD front points is that they aren’t very durable. And I have sharpened both pairs I bought in 2021 down to unusability. Hopefully those sport steinle hold up longer!

all the secondary points are stainless steel which is not very durable either...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
