shopping for a large chalk bag

Who makes a high volume, waist-carry chalk bag? |
|
DMM has some bigger offerings. Pure Grit from Boulder CO has a few size options as well. |

organic has a big one |

In addition to the, ahem, famous Crown Royal booze bag chalk bags I sell here, I have CR bags from the 1.75 liter size bottles. About 11" deep x 7" diameter. That equates to a chalkbag about 2-3X the normal volume. PM me if you want me to make you one. You'll be the envy of your friends. |

DMM makes a huge one, will fit two entire blocks of chalk and still close. I like that they are super burly to boot. |
|
Mammut alpine chalk bag is huge. Also has tons of pockets and space. I've fit a headlamp, coat, phone and food in mine. |
|
Plus one for the mammut, also metolius makes a simple, large chalk bag that is made from haul bag material |

if you are serious about a large chalk bag, get in touch with these guys: Tufa Climbing. tufaclimbing.com/collection… Some bros in Montana making fantastic stuff. Light, strong, the works. Need to ask the OP, "How Big?" Tufa makes one called the "Kilo Chalk Bucket", which looks pretty damned big. It's "waxed Canvas", but they make other stuff in spectra and lightweight stuff and they seem like good folks who could fix up whatever you wanted. https://tufaclimbing.com/products/kilo-chalk-bucket-1 I don't have that one but I have a couple of their bags. I like stuffing emergency stuff into mine. So I have the Houdini which I don't see listed. But it's a "trad chalkbag" in that it has a zippered pocket. In that pocket I fit: at least 1 Petzl little headlamp sometimes I'll put in a 2nd or the little Black Diamond Ion(?) as well if it's a long route and I'm not real familiar with the partner. CRKT NIAD knife (yeah, Hans Florine designed it) 2 sheets of brawney or Coscto paper towels - this doubles as toilet paper and/or firestarter Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer windbreaker. I have a second Tufa. I think it's the Cache or the Salethe model, which I had out 2 days back rolling some loose blocks out at Beacon Rock in a raging storm that I don't even put chalk in. That one has everything above but I can stuff some bars to nosh and a Ghost Whisperer Puffy where the chalk would go. I needed that coat to add to the 4 layers I had on, and was shocked to see as I pulled it out that last dance out I'd traded out the coat for only a down vest. Anyway, it's good to support made in America stuff, and these guys mfg good stuff, it will outlive you. |

Fish makes the regular one that easily fits two blocks and the big one that is claimed to fit five blocks: http://fishproducts.com/catalog/cragging.html As all things Fish, some customisation is usually possible. |

bernard wolfe wrote: For multipitch Mammut makes the Multipitch chalk bag that is pretty great. I find that that chalk bag, plus my approach shoes clipped to my harness and stuffed with snacks, socks, sandwich etc works way better for me than a backpack for me. |

I went through all of this already too. I thought I wanted to get away from a backpack for multipitch so I bought that mammut chalkbag and I really like it, and it can carry a lot more than you'd think - houdini jacket stuffed in the webbing, phone and electrolyte tabs and a small roll of tape and a tiny knife all in the main pocket, a bar in the stretch pocket and could fit a large ish smartphone or something of similar size in the other zip pocket (or your mountain ganja kit). Gatorade bottle or similar with a piece of cord tied around the neck and clipped to your harness. Approach shoes clipped to harness. This setup works fine but I always want more water and hate having so much weight on my harness so I started carrying a backpack for the most part, again. I also tried to search for a perfect backpack before realizing it is nice to have a few different sizes of pack for different climbs or climbing style. I've also become more adept at figuring out when I need to haul my pack or at least clip it to a sling and let it dangle between my legs. |

I sure wish TUFA would make a larger Houdini Chalk Bag. The design, materials, and craftsmanship is superb, I just wish it had a slightly larger diameter so it doesn’t get stuck on my hand. |
|
DMM sells a 4 and 6 liter "toolbag" with gear loops on outside. I used it before as a multipitch bag/first aid when I was worried about rockfall. The small version is p big. The large version could probably fit a small tagline |

I already did and purchased one that was designed previously but is actually too big and tends to dump chalk everywhere. (It is too wide and not quite deep enough). Yates used to make one that was the perfect size but no longer produces them. |

Arc'teryx makes quite a large one |
