I've shared this other places, but figured it should have its own post. I'm always down to give you opinions, insight, and alternative options for fun rainy day activities around Moab. If you have questions, please leave them as forum replies so other people can also benefit. Big thank you to everyone respecting our shared resource that brings us all so much joy! I'm gonna give you the real deal, weather link for the Creek. This is not a forecast. It is actual data collected at Canyonlands Research Station on the Dugout Ranch (by the reservoir). There's info about sun coverage/cloud cover. There's data on evapotranspiration (how the soil is drying). You can look at a history of the wind speed and direction. AND you can see how much it rained and when. Please use this as a resource to decide if it's worth a drive and hike to check conditions in person. Rain is hyper-localized here and nothing beats digging in the sand, looking at your shoes, and feeling the rock to tell if it's dry. I also added a link to a timestamped webcam and the pinpoint forecast I use (Beef Basin road). Thank you, Splitter Conservationists! You need to change the date! You can't bookmark the current conditions. Make sure you're looking at recent data! |

In case folks were wondering - it’s raining in Moab. Messiest mud I’ve seen in a bit |

Matt Castelli wrote: Yep. Pretty soaked in Moab proper. I went on a lovely hike this afternoon through Hidden Valley. |

1.17” of rain this week on the Canyonlands monitor and the ground is damp under the surface in Moab. |

Things have begun to dry out in the Creek this week. We went down to Blue Gramma yesterday after work for a couple of pitches and found the ground and walls dry on the south facing aspects. I can't speak for the shade. More rain in the forecast for this weekend. Spotty T Storms. We have significant cloud cover today in the Abajos. Thanks everyone for caring! |

thanks adam! |

How are things shaping up for Veteran's day? |

David Deville wrote: Still a week out so it's hard to say, looks like weather next week. Might be snowing, might be sunny. As it gets closer we will have a better idea, stay tuned. |

Conditions link isn’t working for me or my partner. Any chance for an update for this weekend? |

Moab's wet. Here on the edge of the desert everything is drenched. Don't know about the creek specifically, but you probably shouldn't climb tomorrow. |

So it's looking like around a quarter inch of rain on Wednesday. Would one sunny day be adequate to dry out the sunny crags? |
|
David Deville wrote: Hey David, the answer is… it depends. You’ll have to check the actual rainfall when it happens and use local signs to decide if it’s good to climb. The temps look cold and that’s not super conducive to quick drying. Is the ground wet, is the rock damp, if you move the dirt around at the base is it wet? The good news is, if it is wet the area has lots of beautiful hikes to go on. |

I also find this site to be easy to use and pretty accurate https://www.iweathernet.com/total-rainfall-map-24-hours-to-72-hours |

With the current ability to know the weather at any location within a few miles of where you want to go why do you need to ask on a climbers forum. |
