Winter climbing around Denver/Boulder? Or elsewhere

I’ve been to Colorado multiple times on climbing trips, but headed for a ski trip this year to Utah/Colorado. Where should I look into getting some climbing in? Trad or sport. Going to be the month of February

Plenty of areas. Shelf Road, north side crags in Boulder Canyon and Clear Creek, Escalante near Grand Junction...

When I moved from the southeast to CO, my friends thought I was moving to the arctic tundra. You can climb year-round here. There are random nice days in the winter where it's 50 and sunny. Tradgic Yogurt hit the front range areas but I'd also add north table mtn in golden. I've been up there in a tee shirt when there were 6" inches of snow on the ground. Not world-class climbing but still fun.

Are you driving or flying? Where will you be skiing/staying?

Driving and living in my vehicle, friends live in Arvada who I’ll probably stay with some of the time. Skiing depends on conditions of course, but want to climb/ski elbert, square top, and torreys. I know it’s not a great time of year for those persay, which is why I’d love some time climbing if the touring isn’t full on

North table should be your last resort or if you are on a time crunch. If you have the time you should definitely make the trip to shelf. T shirt weather basically all winter!

The first question should always be "Well, what sort of stuff do you like to climb?"
Odds are you'll have some good days, but have no idea what you like to do.
It's like asking "you got anything to drink""
Yeah, we do, but are you asking about beer, water, whiskey, or a shake?
You like Sandstone OW, granite edges, or limestone pockets?
CO Ntl Monument will have some cragging in season, the Splatte will be good forgranite domes, Eldo almost always has something "in" and Shelf and Table are usually fine.
Got spikes and tools in case there is a cold snap?

I'd say bring all the gear since you are driving, then 2-3 days prior to your free time look at the forecast and see where it takes you.
Odds are very good that you'll have options.

Better be at least as solid 5.10 Leader to go to Shelf Road and have fun. Pretty stout.

Uh, couldn't disagree more on that! Shelf has plenty of easier stuff, and I would in no way describe it as "stout." It's a great winter climbing destination for all levels!

The facts on Shelf Road ;

5.0 - 5.6 = 10 routes with none more than 2 stars

5.7 - 5.9 = 242 routes with only 12 with 3 or more stars

5.10a and up = 888 routes with 254 of them 3 or more stars

So the numbers show that there indeed plenty of routes under 5.10, even if they might not be classics.

I have been to Shelf with lots of people of varying ability levels, and everyone has always had fun. I just don't think someone should be discouraged from going even if they aren't super solid at 5.10. It's not Rifle!

I climb 10+ trad and 11+ sport. I do intend to bring ice gear, but that wasn’t my question. Style, rock types, and grades weren’t into question, just areas to check out in general and I can study beta for my personal styles and preferences. I appreciate all who gave me spots to look into, shelf seems like the place to be

Shelf Road should be a good fit for you, then.

In Colorado, Shelf is second place to Rifle. For some, that is what is wanted. A primer to Rifle without the pressure.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
