Wanting to check out Buena Vista & some camping/climbing over at Bob's Rock, near the Arkansas River. Was wondering if anyone had gone out that way and checked out the climbing, camping, or if anyone had any recommendations for things to do in/near Buena Vista? Thanks in advance!
The climbing around Bob’s rock is pretty fun and accessible, with mostly sport climbs and top rope access. Before Bobs, you can turn onto another road and get towards Turtle Rock and Transmitter Tower which are also worth checking out. There’s camping both around Bobs and Turtle rock, which are pretty nice! And there are sites on the opposite side of the river accessed from 24, as well as spots above Midland Hill which overlook the town and have direct access to the hiking and biking trails.
There is a guide book for the BV area which I believe you can find at the gear store in town, the Trailhead. It’s small but has decent info on the climbs and areas.
And there’s always something to do in town on Main St!
Check out the “40 minutes from Leadville” guidebook. There’s a bunch of small crags on the river road and the 4 mile road (the road leading to turtle rock and transmitter towers that was mentioned in the above recommendation)
If you have a suitable vehicle, there’s a multi-pitch crag called the Davis Face out on the 4 mile road. It has a good selection of routes from 5.8-easy 5.10 that go on gear and bolts. There are some other 2-3 pitch crags out that way as well, though they aren’t quite as well developed as the Davis Face
Thanks, Ryan! Had a great time camping at Elephant Rock & Climbing @ Bob's. Found the routes to be enjoyable. The ease of access cannot be beat. Went into BV for lunch and cooled down later in the afternoon in the Arkansas River. Thanks again for all of the recs.
