Best approach shoe for CLIMBING?
|
Last night I pulled my absolutely hammered Ganda's out for an evening of setting up top ropes for friends and remembered how well those things climb. Since the last's were stolen and LaSportiva doesn't make them anymore, what are folks using for an approach shoe that climbs well? Lots of threads on lightweight or hiking or running approach but what if I just want to climb in them? |

5.10 gets a lot of shit but I’m honestly still a big fan of the guide tennie. I wear them at work and rarely put my climbing shoes in the single pitch sport context. For me they have held up. I’m on my second season with them and I’m a canyon and rock guide in moab. I’ve also heard great things about the tx guide from la Sportiva if you have feet on the narrow side but someone else will have to speak to those. |

I have the TX Guide Leather. I purposely sized them a tad looser than other approach shoes in the past since I was mainly getting these for hiking. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that they could actually edge pretty well despite having some room in front of my toes. They are still pretty new so they may get softer over time, but the stiffness out of the box is great for me. |

Tx Guide Leather TX2 is a Mytho, TX Guide Leather is a TC Pro equivalent. I never owned the Ganda but assume the Guide climbs almost as good and hikes better |

Like many others, I was disappointed when the 5.10 Guide Tennie got redesigned into a boxy, poor-climbing shape. But to my surprise, the women's model of the same shoe hugs my foot like the old Tennies. So they're my best climbing approach shoe these days. |

TX Guide for sure |

for context, I have the TX Guide and it fits me well and I like it, but it doesn't climb like the Ganda. I am also a 46-47 size so a ladies shoe won't work for me. |
